BG Forge
Free online background remover. Drop an image, get a transparent cut-out. The segmentation model runs in your browser.
Drop any PNG or JPG and get a transparent cut-out back. A segmentation model finds the subject, isolates it, and writes the background to full alpha. Three quality tiers: Light for fast triage, Balanced for everyday product / character shots, Best for hair / fur / wispy edges. The model runs locally on WebAssembly (or WebGPU if your browser has it on). Output is always a transparent PNG ready for Photoshop, Figma, Unity, or any other surface that respects alpha.
Most background removers either watermark your output, cap your file size, or send your image through a server you don't control. Browsers can run the same model class locally now. BG Forge is that, with no signup and no compromise on quality.
- 01Drop a PNG or JPG, or click to pick one. Photos, sprites, product shots, characters all work.
- 02Pick a quality tier. Light is fast for triage (~40 MB model). Balanced matches most stock removers (~80 MB). Best is for hair, fur, and wispy edges.
- 03Wait for the segmentation pass. First run downloads the chosen model into your browser cache; subsequent runs are instant.
- 04Preview the cut-out on a checker background. Tweak quality and re-run if the edge isn't clean.
- 05Download PNG. The output is your image with the background replaced by full alpha transparency.
- First run downloads the segmentation model (Balanced is ~80 MB, Light is ~40 MB). Cached after that.
- Quality ladder: Light is fast for triage, Balanced matches most stock removers, Best is for hair / fur / wispy edges.
- Nothing uploads anywhere. The image stays in your tab. The model runs on WebAssembly (and WebGPU if Chrome has it on).
Is BG Forge free, and does it add a watermark?
Yes, completely free. No account, no upload, no watermark on the output, ever.
How do I remove an image background online without uploading?
Drop the image onto BG Forge. The segmentation model runs locally in your browser tab on WebAssembly (and WebGPU if Chrome has it enabled). The image never leaves your machine, and the result is downloaded straight to your device.
Does the AI background remover really run in my browser?
Yes. The first run downloads the segmentation model (Light is ~40 MB, Balanced ~80 MB). It's cached after that, so subsequent passes are fast and offline. There's no server-side processing — this is the same model class that paid removers run, just hosted on your machine.
What's the difference between Light, Balanced, and Best?
Light is fastest, good for rough triage and product shots with hard edges. Balanced is the default and matches most stock removers (remove.bg-tier results). Best is for hair, fur, wispy or translucent edges where the other tiers leave halos.
What file formats can I drop?
PNG and JPG. Output is always PNG with a true alpha channel — the cut-out drops cleanly into Photoshop, Figma, Unity, or anywhere else that respects transparency.
Can I use the cut-outs in commercial work?
Yes. Whatever rights you have to the source image carry through to the cut-out. BG Forge itself adds no watermark and asserts no rights over your output.
Why is the first run slow?
The model file downloads into your browser cache on first use (40-80 MB depending on quality tier). Once cached, runs are local and fast. Clearing your browser cache will force another download.
Where does my image go?
Nowhere. The image stays in your browser tab. Segmentation runs locally on WebAssembly / WebGPU. No upload, no server, no account.
