SFX Forge
Free retro game sound generator, sfxr in the browser. Pick a preset, twist a knob, export WAV.
Sfxr-style retro sound generator. Pick a preset (pickup, jump, laser, hit, explosion, blip, power up, plus a deeper bench for UI, ship, weapon, and casino sounds), then twist envelope, frequency, vibrato, arpeggio, filter, distortion, reverb, and delay knobs. Audition the result, mutate it for a quick variant, randomize for a surprise, save the params as JSON, paste a one line JS embed snippet, or download a WAV.
Asset pack SFX always sound like asset pack SFX. The original sfxr was the antidote, an instant generator with the canonical retro feel. SFX Forge is sfxr brought into the browser, expanded with more presets and a clean export, and stripped of any account or upload step. Procedural, no AI.
- 01Pick a preset from the left column. The sound auto-plays once so you can hear the genre baseline.
- 02Twist parameters in the center column. Envelope, frequency, vibrato, arpeggio, duty cycle, filters, distortion, reverb, delay. Hit Play to re-audition.
- 03Pick a waveform if the preset chose wrong. Square, sawtooth, sine, triangle, pulse, noise, brown, pink.
- 04Mutate nudges every parameter a little for a quick variant. Reset starts over from the default.
- 05Set sample rate (44.1k down to 8k) and bit depth (16 or 8) in the right column for the retro flavor you want.
- 06Download WAV with your own filename, or Copy JS for a one-line embed string. Save JSON if you want the recipe back later.
- Nothing leaves your machine. No upload, no server, no account. All synthesis runs in your browser through the Web Audio API.
- Some browsers require a click before they let audio play. If the first preset plays silently, hit Play once and the audio context will unlock.
- Refreshing the page wipes your sound bank and current parameters. Save JSON if you want a recipe back later, or Download WAV before you close the tab.

Is SFX Forge free?
Yes, completely. No account, no upload, no watermark, no AI. Procedural synthesis in your browser.
How do I make 8-bit / retro game sound effects online?
Pick a genre preset (pickup, jump, laser, hit, explosion, blip, power up, plus deeper UI / ship / weapon / casino sets), audition it, then twist envelope, frequency, filter, and distortion knobs until it fits the moment. Download as WAV.
Is this the same engine as sfxr / jsfxr / bfxr?
Same family. SFX Forge is an sfxr-style synth: chiptune oscillator + envelope + filter chain that produced the canonical retro feel in indie games for two decades. Expanded with more presets, more waveforms, and a cleaner export pipeline.
What format are the sound effects exported in?
WAV, with configurable sample rate (44.1k down to 8k) and bit depth (16 or 8). You pick the filename. There's also a Copy JS option that bundles the sound into a one-line embed string for prototyping.
Can I use the SFX in commercial games?
Yes. The sounds you generate are yours, royalty-free, no attribution required. SFX Forge runs procedural synthesis on your machine; there's no sample library to license.
Does it work on mobile?
It runs in mobile Chrome and Safari, though the parameter editor is built for a wider screen. Some mobile browsers require a tap before audio plays.
Why are my generated sounds different each session?
Refreshing the page wipes the bank and resets parameters. Use Save JSON to keep a recipe and reload it later, or Download WAV before closing the tab.
Where does my audio go?
Nowhere. All synthesis happens locally through the Web Audio API. No upload, no server, no account.
Your AI forgets. Astryke doesn’t.
These tools stay free. Astryke Hub is the one you pay for: a board your coding agent reads at the start of a session and writes back to at the end, so it never opens cold again.
