How do I compress a video for Discord?
Pick the Discord preset that matches your tier. Free Discord caps uploads at 10 MB, Nitro Basic at 50 MB, and full Nitro at 500 MB. Compress Forge aims the output a hair under each cap.
How small can I make my video?
As small as you want, within reason. Type any MB target in Custom mode. Combine a low target with 50% resolution scaling for the smallest viable result.
Does compression reduce quality?
Yes, that’s the trade. Lower bitrate adds compression artifacts; lower resolution adds softness. Scaling down resolution generally preserves perceived quality better than slashing bitrate at full resolution.
What output format do I get?
Pick MP4 or WebM in the Format toggle. MP4 (H.264) works on Safari, Chrome 122+, Edge. WebM (VP9 / VP8) works everywhere, including Firefox. Discord, Slack, and modern browsers play both. WebM is usually a smaller file at the same visual quality.
Does my video get uploaded anywhere?
No. The clip stays in your browser tab. Compression runs on canvas + MediaRecorder, with no server involved.

MediaRecorder treats bitrate as a hint, not a contract. Final size can drift 10 to 15 percent depending on scene complexity. The estimate next to the player is honest. If you’re hitting a hard cap like Discord’s 10 MB, give yourself a 10 percent buffer.
How long can my source video be?
No hard cap. Practical limit is your browser memory. Long clips work but render time grows with source length.
