Image Compressor takes any image (or a whole batch of them), re-encodes them at the quality you pick, and hands you back smaller files. Auto mode keeps JPEGs as JPEG and converts everything else to WebP, which is usually the smallest output the browser can produce. JPEG, PNG, and WebP toggles let you force a target format. PNG output preserves transparency without re-encoding loss; JPEG and WebP respond to the quality slider for serious shrinkage. You get per-file size deltas and a running total of bytes saved across the whole batch.
Half the "compress image online" results upload your file to a server, run it past ad pages, cap your batch at three files, and hand back something with a watermark or a tracking pixel. None of that is necessary. Image Compressor re-encodes everything client-side using the browser's own canvas encoder.

- Quality slider applies to JPEG and WebP only. PNG is lossless by definition — pick PNG when you need transparency preserved and don't mind a similar (sometimes larger) output size.
- Auto mode keeps JPEGs as JPEG and converts everything else (PNG, GIF, BMP, AVIF, SVG) to WebP for serious shrinkage. Use the PNG button if you specifically need PNG out.
- PNG output won't usually shrink the file. Canvas re-encoding strips inefficient metadata so PNGs from screenshot tools sometimes get a little smaller, but lossless re-encoding is not the point of PNG. If shrinking the bytes matters more than transparency, pick WebP.
- Re-encoding runs in your tab. Big batches and giant photos can stall the browser for a second on each pass. The Encoding indicator shows when a row is still in flight.
- Quality 75 typically halves the file size of a photographic JPEG with almost no visible difference. Quality 50 halves it again at the cost of some texture in flat areas.

What formats can I compress?
Input: PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, and SVG. Output: JPEG, PNG, WebP, or Auto (JPEG stays JPEG; everything else becomes WebP for smaller files). PNG output is also available if you need transparency without re-encoding loss.
How many images can I compress at once?
There’s no hard cap. The practical limit is your browser’s memory. A few dozen photos at a time is comfortable on most machines.
Where does my image go?
Nowhere. The file stays in your browser tab. There is no upload and no server processing.
Why does my PNG come out as WebP in Auto mode?
PNG is lossless and can’t really be ‘compressed’ at the quality-slider level. WebP at quality 75 gives you the same image at a fraction of the size while still supporting transparency. If you need PNG specifically (some platforms still reject WebP), click the PNG button on the format toggle — the file stays PNG, just won't usually shrink.
What quality should I pick?
Quality 75 is a strong default for photographic content; visually almost identical, file usually under half the size. For website hero images, 80–85. For thumbnails, 60. For an embedded preview that doesn’t need to look pristine, 50 still looks fine to most eyes.
Will the dimensions change?
No. Image Compressor only re-encodes; it doesn’t resize. If you also need to resize, use Image Resizer alongside it.
Does it preserve EXIF / metadata?
No. Canvas re-encoding strips EXIF, GPS, camera tags, color profiles, and other metadata. That’s a privacy win for most workflows and a loss if you needed the metadata.
